Abstract

The modern lifestyle can lead to various health problems, one of which is
hypercholesterolemia, characterized by an increase in total cholesterol levels above the normal
threshold. Over time, various efforts have been made to manage hypercholesterolemia, one of
which involves the use of one of Indonesia's most popular beverages, coffee. Coffee contains
diterpene compounds that are believed to influence lipid metabolism in the body. This study
aims to determine the reduction in total cholesterol levels through the administration of filtered
Robusta and Arabica coffee, as well as to assess whether filtered Robusta coffee is more
effective than filtered Arabica coffee in lowering total cholesterol levels. The research method
used was a true laboratory experimental design involving 24 male Wistar rats, which were
divided into four groups (n=6): a filtered Robusta coffee treatment group, a filtered Arabica
coffee treatment group, a positive control group, and a negative control group. The main
parameter measured was the total cholesterol level in each group, and the percentage decrease
was analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. The results showed a significant difference in the
mean reduction of total cholesterol levels in the Arabica and Robusta coffee treatment groups
compared to the negative and positive control groups (p < 0.05) on days 14 and 28 after
treatment.
